Creating Course Backups and “Restoring” Them to Your New Courses

Follow the steps below to create a backup of your WebCT course in a previous term and then restore the backup to a course in the current term. Restoring a course backup will move all of the course content from your previous class into your current class so that students can view it.

  1. Logon to WebCT.
  2. From your myWebCT Course Listing page, select the “Course functions” tab (the “Course functions” tab is near the top of the Course Listing page). When the Course Functions screen appears, select the boxes next to the courses you want to backup (Please note that there is a restriction of one backup per course. So if a backup already exists, you will first need to delete the existing backup before proceeding).
  3. Click on "Create backups" on the Action Menu on the right side of the screen. When the list of courses you wish to backup appears on the screen, click the “Create” tab at the end of the list (it's not necessary to enter a short description -- the program will automatically create a filename for the backup) and then on "Continue" when the program has successfully completed the backup process.
  4. Once the backup process is completed, click on the box next to the backup filename and select "Restore backup" from the Action Menu on the right.
  5. When the Restore Course screen appears, check the box next to the current term course where you want to restore the backup and then select "Keep Users" from the Action Menu on the right. Once the backup file is restored, click on “Continue” to complete the process.
