Alternative LogonWhy an alternative logonSome users have found that pages in their online courses take a long time to appear in their browsers, especially when using dial-up internet connections. For those users, we offer an alternative logon page to speed up your courses' responses. How it worksWith the normal logon, all information that flows between your computer and your online course gets encrypted. That is, it's converted to code that would be hard to decipher if someone intercepted it on a network. The alternative logon encrypts your user name and password when you log on, but does not use encryption after that. Free from the burden of encrypting and decrypting, your browser displays pages more quickly. Check with your facultyPlease check with your courses' faculty to make sure it's OK to use the alternative logon. Some may not want you to take quizzes or submit assignments without encryption. OK to use the alternative logon?Yes: Go to the alternative logon, which encrypts your user name and password. (Note: The alternative logon doesn't work with Netscape 7.0x, but does work with Netscape version 7.1 or higher.) No: Go to the normal logon, which encrypts everything.
